We were very excited to attend a meeting hosted by our regional NFU team, hearing from the new NFU Education team who have been working hard to launch their new website and looking at ways to promote the story of food in schools through practical and curriculum based tools. There’s lots of information for teachers and group organisers on their website.
Plus take a look at Farmvention, (when farming meets invention) a national STEM competition run by the NFU aimed at primary school children (KS1 & KS2). This years competition is due to open in June 2019.
There are three exciting problem based challenges that can be entered by individual children or in teams. Designed to make children think about the day to day issues faced by farmers and growers in England and Wales, each challenge is supported by curriculum linked resources created in partnership with the Association for Science Education (ASE).
There are a host of amazing prizes for the winning schools. The overall winner will win the money can’t buy experience of their school being turned into a farm for the day. Finalists will present their ideas at a prestigious event and have the opportunity to win some amazing prizes. All entrants will become certified ‘farmventors’ and receive a reward pack including a certificate and mini prize.
